ProfessorD.us and Justus League Records donate album proceeds to Haiti Disaster Relief

Peace, this is ProfessorD.us writing to implore you to make whatever donations you can to Haiti for earthquake relief efforts.  I know many of you reading this will have already done so but I also know there are a lot of us who plan to donate and “just haven’t gotten around to it.”  It takes only a few seconds to text “Haiti” to the Red Cross at 90999 (for a $10 donation billed to your cell phone bill), and text all your people encouraging them to do the same.

As part of our contribution we will be donating 100% of the proceeds from sales of my latest album, THIRD WORLD WARriors, Vol. 1 to the Haitian Red Cross, purchased from our website this week from today, Friday January 22 until Friday January 29.  To purchase the album for $9.99 please click here THIRD WORLD WARriors Vol. 1or visit www.JustusLeague.us

The album includes the single, “Freedom in Haiti,” which provides important context for understanding Haiti’s current state including the fundamental causes of the nation’s woes and its importance for world history and global justice.  You can view the music video here: www.youtube.com/DopePoetsDotCom

In the coming weeks I will be performing at various events in Canada and the US to help raise money for disaster relief.  As dates are confirmed they will be posted on JustusLeague.us, hopefully I’ll catch up with some of you then.

Lastly, here are my very brief comments about what we need to think about beyond our immediate donations:

The US and the "west" have a dismal record of exploiting and repressing the Haitian people from the colonization of Hispaniola to the present.  Haiti desperately needs the help of the world right now but the provision of aid must not be allowed to justify further coercion and exploitation by self-interested western powers.  Despite so much US military presence I have seen no images or reports of them clearing rubble or un-burying people.  Why didn’t they show up with ships full of cranes and bulldozers instead of machine guns?  The provision of "security" is only necessary when the provision of aid is not forthcoming.  The US media and military’s emphasis on the former betrays a lack of focus on the latter (or, more pessimistically/realistically, an alternate agenda).  We must expose and oppose the “shock doctrine” profiteering that is already undoubtedly underway.  Let’s work to make sure that in the coming weeks and years the current attention on Haiti is not lost.  Let’s make sure all conditionalities placed on aid are revoked, let’s push for total debt cancellation, let’s raise awareness about the true causes of Haiti’s poverty and global poverty more generally, and let’s have some justice.

Please forward this message to all who may be concerned.

Peace

Haiti: An Unwelcome Katrina Redux by Cynthia McKinney
The United States, on the day after the tragedy struck, confirmed that an entire Marine Expeditionary Force was being considered "to help restore order," when the "disorder" had been caused by an earthquake striking Haiti… But, I remember the bogus reports of chaos and violence the led to the deployment of military assets, including Blackwater, in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One Katrina survivor noted that the people needed food and shelter and the U.S. government sent men with guns. Much to my disquiet, it seems, here we go again. From the very beginning, U.S. assistance to Haiti has looked to me more like an invasion than a humanitarian relief operation.

First single and video: “Freedom in Haiti”:
The first single and video, “Freedom in Haiti”, demonstrates the Rock, Hip-Hop and R&B sensibilities of Justus League virtuoso producer Jad-X and a spellbinding chorus by new R&B sensation Obie.  ProfessorD.us’ captivating flow emerges the listener into the tale of Haiti’s under-heralded place in world history as the site of the greatest slave revolution ever and of that nation’s continued oppression by The USA, France and Canada, under the guise of foreign aid.  The music video directed by US journalist and Filmmaker Kevin Pina features original footage daringly shot by Pina in Haiti.

‘B-side’ release featuring M-1 of famed group dead prez: “Everything’s Political”:
The simultaneous ‘B-side’ release, “Everything’s Political”, featuring M-1 of dead prez, is ProfessorD.us and M-1’s sharp response to all those who ask, “Why is your music always so political?”  dead prez, like the Dope Poet Society, cite Public Enemy as a major influence, and the groups consolidated their revolutionary camaraderie while sharing various stages around the world.  D and M trade intricate verses on this track interspersed by a catchy chorus and laid over a sonic scorcher courtesy of Justus League virtuoso producer Jad-X.  This one is a guaranteed underground classic.
